I was on a hunt for a foundation with good coverage but that did not cause breakouts when I stumbled onto sterling minerals. I love that they offer samples to try before you buy the full size. I ordered a couple samples and realized Melanie Dewy was the best option for me. It has great coverage but not too cakey. It looks very natural. I wear this foundation on 10 hour work days and it stands the test of time!
I have been using Sterling Mineral foundation for a year and I love it! I have tried the dewy and delicate formulas but prefer dewy as it is less coverage and is a more natural look. Delicate formula has its purpose but dewy for me is the go-to everyday foundation. I am a black woman and was searching for an all natural foundation because I do have sensitive skin. Sterling Minerals offers a great shade range with even better ingredients. Melanie can be a little too warm/golden for me in the winter so I mix in Jacinta to mute out some of the yellow. No exact measurement just eyeball it as I go. The key to getting good coverage with this foundation is knowing your undertone AND really buffing the foundation into your skin. I spend about 2 minutes buffing the foundation in on each side of my face. With this method I have NEVER had flashback an have proof of it! So, you can never buff too much. The longevity is usually about 6-8 hours without any touch up necessary. And even with the dewy formula I do not have an issue with it being too oily. I absolutely love this foundation and will keep using. I have not used the foundation during the summer but I will this summer and I am looking forward to the results!
When I get a little darker in the summer or want to add warmth to my complexion, this is the shade.

Melanie is such a pretty peachy vibrant brown color. I wear this color on top of Xantha. I use Xantha to add more golden yellow to it. Wearing these two colors together gives my skin a gorgeous glow.

I am a medium dark skinned African American woman. I learned that I have a yellow neutral tone that is slightly olive. My perfect mixture is Xantha as my base color and Melanie mixed with a little Olivia. I always apply Xantha to my skin first as a pre concealer foundation and to lighten and add more yellow to my foundations. Then, I add Melanie alone, Olivia alone, or a mixture of Melanie and Olivia on top depending on the look I am going for.
I have very oily skin. I use the velvet formula. A little goes a long way. Coverage is excellent and the formula is gentle and does not break me out. I apply my foundations dry, using the wet method, or simply set it with distilled water depending on the look I want. It is versatile. I have tried every mineral foundation from 8 different products. High end to pharmacy and I must say that I had almost given up. I am not able to find 1 foundation that fits my skin complexion which is golden undertone and beige/coco brown overtones, so very frustrating. I had found this product online and thought that I would give it one more try. The samples really help to mix different shades to find my perfect match. Finally Tawny and Melanie mixed works for me. Nicest mineral foundation I have found and the color is a perfect match and does not make me look jaundiced. Zero chalk look and does not dry out my skin. Coverage is good and the staying power is excellent and that is more important to me than anything else. Was so tired how other brands melted away on me after just a couple of hours.
